Gil Jardim, maestro with Phd in Music, is the Chief Executive of the Department of Music of the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo. Since 2001 he conducted simultaneously his responsabilities as the Artistic Director and Conductor of both Philarmonia Brasileira Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of the University of São Paulo. He has also was invited to conduct leading international and national symphonic orchestras with a classical and popular approach to music.
Gil Jardim has developed a very unique ability to fuse Brazilian ethnic music and classical music, thus setting new musical standards and achieving highly artistic results. Among these fusion works, we could highlight concerts with distinguished performers such as Egberto Gismonti, Milton Nascimento, Naná Vasconcelos, John Maclaughin, Measha Bruggergosmann, Catalin Rotaru, Peter Zazofsky, among others.
Outside Brazil, he has conducted the Brooklyn Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, (NY, USA), the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, (Londen, Uk), the Camerata Mexicana (MX), the Regionalle del Lazio i Roma Orchestra, (IT) and the Orquesta de Cámara Mayo, in Argentina.
Since 2001 he conductes an average of 28 Chamber Orchestra preformances.
At the Music Department at the University of São Paulo, he promoted one of the most extensive modernization programmes in this school history. In addition to activities as conductor and professor, he was also invited to be the General Director of the International Festivals of the university: Ex Toto Cord, the Int´l String Festival with Shlomo Mintz and Patron, Percussivo USP, Int´l Festival for Contemporary Percussion and the Guitar Festival, Festival Leo Brouwer with the honour of bringing Mto. Brouwer for the first time to Brazil who became the Patron of the event in its two editions, in 2008 and 2009.
